A look at Dance TV - it is more than you think!
Okay, I admit it: I am a little bit older than the target group of this channel. But I am a fan anyway. And if a TV channel is awaking my interest in dancing, it really does mean something. Ask my partner for proof.
Though, my first reaction to DanceTV was typical for someone who has been in the industry for a while:
Oh no, please, not another music channel. I learned better quickly: the channel is more than just playing some music in endless loops. It is about a whole experience and industry. The channel's focus is on dance club music (or "house music", for the experts amongst you). It does have music clips, of course, but it does go beyond being a video jukebox: one can immerse himself in the entire business and culture of clubbing. DanceTV offers reports from the best-known dance clubs allover the world, the latest events and parties and recent developments in the industry. It reflects on the culture of clubbing in a positive, straight-forward manner - and in doing so, targets a mainstream audience of people in the teens to late thirties.
I do also find programme mix appealing: While I am being entertained I do also get insight in a whole industry (the market size for dance clubs is estimated to be around 50 billion USD worldwide per year); how this industry works and attracts its audience. You will understand why people flock by the millions every weekend in their special clubs or attend megaparty all moving to the same beat.
The video and audio work on this channel is of high standard, which completes the overall fantastic experience. And the channel is available in HD quality. The reports, clips and magazine format are solid and journalistically thorough. You get immersed into this world already even after a few minutes of watching the channel. The beat will also catch you: I did actually start to dance a bit when I watched the trailer of the channel the first time in my office - and, believe me, you don't want to see me dance. So better get a glimpse of the real dance and club culture and sign up for DanceTV.
