WildEarth Media (Pty) Ltd is an up and coming South African media company with big ambitions. WE deliver a high quality, entertaining and educational LIVE broadcast from the heart of the African bush to viewers all over the world.
Our passion for this magnificent wilderness and all who live on it is surpassed only by our commitment to binging nature LIVE to a global audience. WE are working towards a 24 hour High Definition LIVE wildlife TV channel that never stops broadcasting on the Internet, cable, satellite, IPTV and mobile … it’s in our nature.
The underlying concept of broadcasting live from a wilderness area was pioneered by Graham Wallington 10 years ago right here at Djuma Game Reserve. It was then that he began a friendship with the owners of Djuma: Jurie and Pippa Moolman, which meant that WildEarth had to be based on this very special reserve.
WE began laying the cables, erecting the masts, building the camp and wiring the final control in September 2006. Graham and his wife; Emily, along with several highly committed young wildlife filmmakers overcame an array of technical and environmental hurdles, which finally lead to the ‘beginning’ on the 27th April 2007 (South Africa’s Freedom Day).
The Internet broadcast rights were licensed to Telkom Media and the work began. In the first year of operation WildEarth achieved an amazing 99% up time, and in spite of endless difficulties including lightning strikes, elephants pulling up cables, baboons chewing equipment and ants destroying cameras a twice daily game drive was broadcast. Presented by Nick, Pieter, Rexon, Jan and now Marco with Helen, Robert, Alex and James on camera, and directed by Hayley, Siphiwe, Sue, Rodney, Daniel, Angie and now Motheo.
A dynamic team of people working with cutting edge, and sometimes idiosyncratic equipment, tirelessly fight against what seems like insurmountable odds and technical difficulties to connect an audience of wildlife addicts to our beloved WildEarth. The LIVE reality wildlife filmmakers bush soap opera that you can be a part of. Our audience gets involved by producing a variety of 'mash-up' videos out of the video WE broadcast.
It is our mission to take our viewers along on a journey, to show them what WE know of this beautiful place and those special animals that live here in a real way. WE strive to communicate not just the truth of what we see but also provide a window into the lives of the individual animals that live with us on Djuma … and on our WildEarth.
